Harper's Bazaar Polska

Finally! One of the top high-fashion magazines is soon to arrive to Poland. No. I'm not talking about Vogue (yet ;)), but, likewise notorious, Harper's Bazaar. The first issue is scheduled to appear in March 2013 and its first cover has just been published on fb with Keira Knightley on it.

Harper's Bazaar was the first fashion magazine in the US (1867) and was aimed at upper-class women. Let's hope it's a run-up for Vogue to appear in Poland, though it probably would be too much to wish for. And it's not only because the Polish market is not ready to accomodate the needs of a magazine like Vogue (although it isn't). The problem lies elsewhere. As I browse through  Polish magazines (yes, by browse I mean there is not much to read there), it's hard to find any real fashion writing. There are tons of articles about make-up, love, sex, maternity etc. but no writing about fashion. I mean, there are texts about designers or latest trends but the style of writing has more in common with a grocery list than a proper journalism. When you read American Vogue - it's like reading a great art of fiction, the language and style are sophisticated and impeccable, the words flow with no obstruction and reading it almost feels like reading a poetry. I'm afraid that Polish magazines are not ready for it, and not because there are no good fashion journalists, but rather because the editors or the publishers are afraid that no one would read it. I truly hope that Harper's Bazaar is about to change it and will show some good fashion writing, cause if not, why would we need it in the first place?
