Hats down

There is nothing like a hat to add sophistication, but there is also nothing like a hat to make you look stupid. With head pieces there is a very thin line between fashion and Mad Hatter and we must be careful when we choose to embark on this treacherous adventure.
My favourite period in terms of hats is the 1950s -they are decorative but not over-the-top and created to enhance the beauty of its wearer rather than trying to outshine her.

The question is - can we today look as fashionable as women back then wearing such - one might think - extravagant head pieces? I think we can but we must be more wary of the occasion and circumstances. Nowadays, hats are left for the weddings, horse races or holidays at French Riviera, however, it seems like there is still a small place for hats in everyday life. And I don't mean only fedoras or panama hats.
